A little shoulder prep work before I practiced some push-ups (which are still challenging me a year postpartum). ⠀ This little flow will prep those shoulders for a bit more loading. ⠀ A few tips: ⠀ - when the block is in between my hands I’m making Ls with my first finger and thumb and pressing into the block. ⠀ - when I’m doing the forearm lowers I’m working the elbows to ribs but not so much that it’s causing pain. ⠀ Give it a go, let me know if you like it 😉.

Flashback to last weekend and yet another enlightening teacher training @balancedlifeyoga: 2UNITE Pre and Post Natal Certification with the amazing @krista_bromfield 🙏🏻 Not only did I get to dive deeper into a niche I feel passionate about teaching one day, but I also picked up a few tips and tricks that are obviously quite applicable in my current situation🤰🙌🏼 (and don’t even get me started on pelvic floor health). Full disclosure: I have been dealing with a lot of pain and discomfort during the second half of my pregnancy, some of it #ankylosingspondylitis related, some of it just the joys of pregnancy I suppose, but I definitely haven’t been doing yoga as much as I should be/would like to be. Yoga at 13weeks (3 months) pregnant 🤰 changes during my practice: balance. So today I focused my practice on balancing poses, having an open of the heart to accept all the wonderful changes occurring in my body 💖🙏 I have definitely popped all of a sudden having a bump that for strangers might be at the verge of being seen as a food baby or the possibility of being pregnant 😂 Today I am thankful to be at the last week of the first trimester and for my kids to have let me practice for 20 minutes! ☺️✨🙏💕

Okay, these foolproof pancakes fill your kids with banana, eggs & almonds… = a few food groups sorted for the day. Recipe adapted from @eat_well_enjoy_life Ingredients 1 medium banana 2 large eggs 4 tablespoons wholemeal almond flour (available @thevillagestoreyarraville ) ½ teaspoon baking powder coconut oil for cooking Instructions Blend all ingredients with a stick-mixer or in a blender Heat coconut oil in a pan on medium-low heat. Add batter in small circles - try a few sizes to work out what you can flip! When the edges start to look dry and the pancake is firm enough to flip (about 2 minutes), flip and cook another minute on the other side. Place onto a plate and cover to keep warm. Repeat with the rest of the batter. PASSION AND COMPASSION. SEEING AND RESPONDING. RESPONDING NOT REACTING. ** ** After years of practicing yoga, it can be surprising to see what a different skill set it is to actually teach yoga. To get off the mat and witness students in their own practice/process and work as a guide to hold space for the yoga to happen. One common thread between practicing yoga and teaching yoga is our capacity for mindfulness and intelligent action that increases the more that we practice/the more that we engage. When we first start practicing yoga, we are listening to the recipe for each posture with total attention: there is meditation in this too. However, the more that we practice, we have greater space to apply that mindfulness inward: to observe the effect of the posture on the space for the internal organs compressing or wringing or stretching, the blood pressure, the joint space, the bandhas, the more subtle koshas or layers of being - the energetic attitude of the spirit in say, a backbend vs. a forward fold, etc. Our inner container for moving meditation expands and gathers greater charge as we become familiar with the practice. Similarly, as teachers, when we begin teaching we share what we are passionate about, what has helped us in our own lives from this practice. And there is great wisdom and energy in this sharing. However, the more we teach, we begin to observe each unique students experience and how we can be more present to their experience and their learning process. There is greater space to wisely and specifically see and respond with focused awareness. A good teacher teaches from personal experience. A great teacher does that AND sees and responds to the unique people in front of them. These skills of relating are like muscles that we flex and strengthen and stretch just like our bodies strengthen and open through the yoga practice, these teaching skills strengthen and open over time and with practice and we are able to be of greater service. ** As I meditate on the weekend ahead, I am reminded and inspired by these principles of Holding Space from Heather Plett: (see comments)

Heute möchte @mama.timeout von uns wissen „Was ist dein persönlicher Energiebringer?“ - Für mich ist das mehr denn je #Yoga 🙏 Als ich vor ca. 9 Jahren das 1.Mal Yoga ausprobiert habe war es keine Liebe auf den ersten Blick. Aber die Liebe ist stetig gewachsen❤️ Und so habe ich in unterschiedlichen Phasen meines Lebens auch unterschiedliche Arten von Yoga praktiziert. In der #Schwangerschaft hatte Yoga für mich den grössten Effekt🤰 Vor allem im 3. Trimester hatte ich durch das zusätzliche Gewicht häufig Rückenschmerzen, die ich mit Yoga super in den Griff bekommen habe. Meine tägliche Praxis hat mich buchstäblich wieder eingerenkt 💪 Und ich bin mir sicher, dass sich Yoga auch positiv auf meine Geburt ausgewirkt hat🧘‍♀️ Im Wochenbett habe ich es sehr vermisst, wieder auf die Matte zu steigen. Hi Jo, I have been meaning to message you for aaaaaages but you know how it is with a bubba and baby brain 😂 I came to your pregnancy yoga at Albany and also some massages before bub was born in May and just wanted to say a huge thank you for all of your support and wisdom. I truly believe that yoga and all the knowledge you shared made a massive difference to my pregnancy and birth. I would come home after every yoga class telling my husband and Mum all the interesting things you’d told us and how they had to look after me haha. Our baby boy Elton is now 4 and a bit months and is super chilled, happy and healthy, which I attribute to my happy and healthy pregnancy. I went to @cardiobarre_woodlandhills last night for the first time in over a year (thanks @groupon) and I found myself doing a lot of the same modifications I do in yoga classes - wider stance, take it to your knees, etc. So I thought it would be I good time to go back and look at how I transitioned my yoga practice 4 years ago.
