Darcy (10yo) competed at her first competition on Saturday. She went 6/6 on her lifts with 13kg, 15kg and 17kg snatches and 21kg, 23kg and a 25kg PB clean and jerk. Darcy has been coming to the gym for just 6 months and took to weightlifting properly when she turned 10 in June. Coming into her first comp, Darcy was nervous so we decided that she would lift weights that she knew she could do any day of the week. On her final clean and jerk, she decided she wanted to try 25kg, a 0.5kg PB and gave her best technical lift of the competition with 4s in points! Now Darcy is already thinking about her next competition. Back in may I spent 2 weeks with @coach_zt on his first seminar tour in the U.K. My biggest takeaway (there was many) of this trip was understanding the concept of internal/external rotation in the overhead squat position. I now truly understand that it is not a case of intentionally rotating the humerus. It is a big intention to get thoracic extension, as a bi-product of this the humerus tends to rotate internally. A way to drill this is to press then Overhead squat, put the head through and think thoracic extension. What can #paleobreakfast look like? . So here’s the first thing to note, when embracing this lifestyle (it’s not a diet!) one needs to look at #foodasfuel ⛽️ before anything else. . So you eat what you need regardless of the time of day... As in, breakfast can look like “dinner food” and dinner can look like “breakfast food.” Food is food and you can have your typical time of day meals but don’t get stuck by the pre-consumed notions of what breakfast has to look like. . Because I lift and need energy to still be a #mompreneur, my macros need to be sufficient to keep me running at optimal speed and performance... What you see on my plate this morning provided me with 35 grams of #protein / 40 grams of #carbs / and 25 grams of #fat / straight up clean eating... Unprocessed, organic, local when possible, and delicious! . Remember, to be fit you need to eat... You just need to eat right! When I work out in the morning this meal comes after an early morning breakfast and a post workout shake already being consumed, all before 9 AM... So fuel up my peeps! ❤️💪🏽❤️

My proudest lifts (in order). You’ll notice that my one snatch PR isn’t included in this. This meet was a HUGE mental hurdle PR for me. I struggled so much mentally during the two weeks before. I decided to still open at really high percentages (96-97%) and did not let the numbers intimidate me and approached a 5 kg PR attempt with insane calmness. THEN after missing 2/3 attempts in the clean and jerk, I was beginning to have flashbacks to AO 2 a few months ago where I bombed in the clean and jerks. I was so scared I was going to bomb AGAIN. I was gonna be that girl who couldn’t get her shit together. I started hyperventilating. @iamtomsroka and I have been working on my mental game and overcoming adversity and with the help of my @thestrengthagenda teammates, I came out the other side. I know I’ve always been strong but it’s time for me to stop getting in my own way.
