Want your legs to grow it’s pretty simple, work them till you can’t work them anymore, then work them again. .. A lot of people fail to understand the work required when training legs. If you look at your chest as an example. Look at the work you need to put in to stimulate growth, also look at the amount of work your chest does throughout the day. Apart from that gym session once a week it does pretty much fuck all. Now let’s look at your legs, look at the work they do on a daily basis, every movement you do involves your legs. Do you think putting the same effort into training your chest will get similar leg growth? Its not enough to build muscle and achieve aerobic fitness. You need to think about flexibility, too. Why is it so important? Stretching keeps the muscles flexible, strong, and healthy, and we need that flexibility to maintain a range of motion in the joints. Without it, the muscles shorten and become tight. Then, when you call on the muscles for activity, they are weak and unable to extend all the way. That puts you at risk for joint pain, strains, and muscle damage. For example, sitting in a chair all day results in tight hamstrings in the back of the thigh. That can make it harder to extend your leg or straighten your knee all the way, which inhibits walking. Likewise, when tight muscles are suddenly called on for a strenuous activity that stretches them, such as playing tennis, they may become damaged from suddenly being stretched. Injured muscles may not be strong enough to support the joints, which can lead to joint injury. A hamstring stretch will keep the muscles in the back of your thigh flexible. Sit on the floor with your legs in front of you. Slide your hands down your legs until you feel a burning sensation. Hold for 30 seconds, then slowly return to a sitting position. The cumulative effect of stretching Stretching once today wont magically give you perfect flexibility. Youll need to do it over time and remain committed to the process. We used to believe that stretching was necessary to warm up the muscles and prepare them for activity. However, mounting research has shown that stretching the muscles before theyre warmed up can actually hurt them. All it takes to warm up the muscles before stretching is five to 10 minutes of light activity, such as a quick walk. You can also stretch after an aerobic or weight-training workout. Hold a stretch for 30 seconds. Dont bounce, which can cause injury. Youll feel tension during a stretch, but you should not feel pain. If you do, there may be an injury or damage in the tissue. Just do what you see in here. Keep your affected leg completely straight at all time and pay special attention with the movements of your foot, head and hands. Bring them to the position you see in here.... once in position keep it there for about 5 seconds and release it like you see. One minute of this exercise a couple of times a day is all you need to do to reduce your pain and discomfort. Please consult your doctor or physio if you have any concerns about this exercise. HYPEREXTENSION CURLS - These are a great exercise that I am doing in my current program that really gets the hamstrings, glutes 🍑 and back firing! This exercise is not only good for building up posterior chain strength but it is also a great way to improve neuromuscular control. A lot of people have difficulty with lumbo-pelvic control and the ability to contract through their glutes and hamstrings separate to their low back so what tends to happen is their low back takes the majority of the load which can then increase risk of injury. This exercise is a hinge movement so it can easily carry over to improving movement patterns for deadlifting or other hinge based movements. 👂 How do you complete this exercise correctly I hear all of you ask? 🤔 Well... 1️⃣ Set the machine up so your hips are just above the pads. This will allow for full lumbar flexion at the end of range point of the exercise. Once this is done, get on, lock your legs straight and then start the movement in full flexion so the spinal erectors are lengthened. 2️⃣ Before moving, your ankles should be pressing hard against the pad behind them to light up the hamstrings and you should be squeezing your glutes. 3️⃣ When starting the movement keep your spine in full flexion, press your ankles on the pad behind them and thrust your hips (posterior pelvic tilt) into the pad in front, until you come up to a point where your low back wants to join the party. Your hamstrings and glutes should be on fire at this stage. 4️⃣ Now, from here we keep tension through our glutes and hamstrings and start to extend our low back and then mid back. Picture in your head that you are extending one vertebrae at a time until your become straight. This part should be very controlled! 5️⃣ To return the starting position, begin flexing your back one vertebrae at a time and slowly come down to the starting position. NOTE: Your glutes and hamstrings should be pushing into their respective pads throughout the entire rep to ensure they are activated and are maintaining tension throughout the movement! This weeks first training because of my bad. I did on sunday very late training with the very dry body and on monday I had soooo hard muscles (!) so I wasnt even able to walk properly - the recovery is very bad with the hypothyroism, with this heat and with the intensive training😁 luckily I had the massage for my peach and the hamstrings yesterday so I was able to complete today e.g squat with 5x85,5x90,4x95,3x100, 3x105,2x110 kg. Use the belt to pull your leg with straight knee to its end range closer to your chest. Then at this end range, push down against the strap with your leg, activating the hamstring muscle group while pulling your leg with your arm with an equal power at the same time to allow no movement performing an isometric contraction or static. Hold this contraction for about 5-10 seconds, then relax and pull your leg closer towards you. You will find that you have just gained new range and opened your hamstring more. Repeat this again at the new end rage, and gain some more range. Keep repeating until you have no more range gains. This technique will trick your nervous system and allow for instant range gain. However, it is important to perform this technique after some warmup to prevent soft tissue injury. Especially if you have tight or short hamstrings; Include this exercise in your warmup before, heavy squatting, deadlifting, Olympic lifting, sled pull or push, or any exercises that need the hamstring to be long. Lifting weights has taught me a lot. It’s taught me perseverance, dedication, and that nothing in life worthwhile comes easy. . I used to blame genetics when I couldn’t put on muscle. Genetics do play a role in how much muscle a person can gain, however everyone can overcome challenges if they try hard enough and learn from their mistakes. I am a “skinny body type” but I stopped blaming genetics and fixed the way I was eating and lifting. I began to eat 3000 calories a day and implemented progressive overload properly. After about a year I started to see results. A good physique and feeling strong and confident is something nobody can take away from you and reflects the hard work you put in to get there.
